Parenting Support

Would you like to parent differently than you experienced growing up? Are you struggling to be on the same page about parenting with your spouse or ex-partner? Is your child struggling with a challenging behavior? Would you like to learn new ways to support or connect with your child? Do you struggle to remain calm when your child displays "big emotions?" Would you like to find ways to make parenting responsibilities more evenly distributed among partners?

We do not conduct individual child therapy because we believe that in most cases, sessions with a parent can make a far greater impact as they are with their child far more hours per week than the one hour per week they would meet with their clinician. Due to this philosophy, we find it much more helpful for parents and children to attend sessions together or for parents to attend on their own.

Parenting support sessions can include meeting with multiple caregivers, one caregiver, or caregivers and their children depending on the needs of the family.

Models used during parenting support therapy includes Attachment-Focused Psychodynamic Therapy, Circle of Security Parenting, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Caring Dads Curriculum, Narrative Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Parenting based in connection, safety, and attunement is far more powerful than parenting based in fear. This parenting strategy, however, is far harder to put into practice when emotions are heightened and the voices and actions of how we were parented bubble to the surface instead.

Therapy can help change this cycle.
